Early morning fog and one of the more boring hikes ever (I was making Dante’s circles of hell jokes, among others) lead to one of the best views. (more…)
This temple was the steepest ever. Seriously. It was followed by a hike that I, with my knee, could not make. I was already limping horribly, so we caught a ride to the minshuku (hotel) and took the sky-tram up. I felt lazy until my Dad showed up, having hiked it, and looking like absolute death. No shame in knowing my limits, folks! (more…)
More temples, more trees, more roads. With a frog. And the only bread I could find on the whole trip. Not that I mind eating non-bread food. I just started to crave bagels around this point. (more…)
After the long day, we took a bus to Temple 13 and then walked a few more temples before taking a break. With a frog. (more…)
The hike up to Temple 12 was an all-day event. Long, tiring, and totally worth it. It really did take us most of the day, and of course, it was the absolute hottest day. This was the day that I wrenched my knee and wanted to kill someone. (more…)
I learned how to follow the train and took the lead. It was a very long day and the worst was yet to come. (more…)
A full day in the sun, where it wasn’t too warm, and the road was easy. And I found out how easily I sunburn (yes, I’d worn sunblock). (more…)
The first few temples, me getting kitted out, plus a pit stop at Kobe where their automated train stations stunned me. (more…)
I went to Japan with my brother to visit our father and hike O’Henro. But before you can hike, you have to meet Japan. Hi, Japan! (more…)
A trip to Gay Pari in 2007 was well worth the $65 tickets. Yes, $65. It was over Christmas and we celebrated my old man turning 60. (more…)
Everyone knows what this building is. I only wish I’d remembered the camera the night before, when we walked past at midnight and ran into a man with an accordion, playing a song my partner knew, in a key she could sing in. It was so good, people stopped on the street and applauded. (more…)
We didn’t go in the Louvre because the line was so long, but we walked around and caught the free show of art in the world. (more…)
I visited here about 18 years previously with my mother. It hadn’t actually changed all that much. (more…)
On our last day in Paris, we decided to walk to that iconic landmark, and found everything beautiful in between as well by taking side streets. Remember, take the less direct route when you’re on vacation. (more…)
Cozumel Mexico. We didn’t go snorkling (which I do regret a bit), but we did go on a tour of Mayan ruins. On horses. There was beer involved. (more…)
Another day, another beach. It was overcast, but that didn’t bother us one tiny bit! The weather was warm, the rum was spiced, and we went to Hell. No, really, it was a town. (more…)
I don’t know if Aki Rice and Salt Fish are nice, but I do know that we enjoyed a tree-top zip-line tour of Jamaica, man. (more…)
First stop was a private beach, where we sat in the sun all day, swam a little, and otherwise enjoyed not having to do anything. (more…)
